Therapeutic Pain Neuroscience Education

“A problem stated is a problem half solved.” ~ Charles Kettering. Learning about pain, why we have pain, and how the nervous system works can actually reduce our pain. We will teach you everything you need to know to reduce your pain.

Graded Motor Imagery

For intense pain conditions normal exercises can feel overwhelming. This treatment reduces the stress and work of the nervous system and allows for recovery so we move again with less pain.

Nerve, Soft Tissue, and Joint Mobilization

Our tissues, including our nervous system, need movement to perform at its optimal function. We will assist and teach you where and how to start moving with less pain.

Strengthening and Stretching

Some stress is good for the body and nervous system. When stress starts small and gradually increases over a long period of time the muscles get stronger and or more flexible. We will coach you through this process so you avoid future injuries and improve the function of your muscles.

Modalities

If physical therapy was like riding a bike, these additional treatments are like
training wheels. They provide short term relief to assist us with tasks that are new and difficult. These treatments can help us to balance the bike while we learn to pedal and move forward. Once we have learned how to balance and pedal the bike, we can
remove these training wheels.

Aerobic Conditioning

Aerobic exercise contributes to a lot of health benefits. In addition to increased blood flow, oxygen, and nutrient exchange, aerobic exercise can also provide pain relief. Just 20-30 minutes of walking a day at a brisk pace, “like you’re late for an appointment,” is enough to stimulate the nervous system to produce pain relieving endorphins.

Coping Skills Training

High stress and emotional turmoil are like amplifiers to our pain. Learning to calm the nervous system will be key to helping you on your recovery journey. From calm deep breathing to meditation and journaling, we can teach you how to turn the noise down on your pain.
